No Man's Sky Issue

After setting a waypoint for a particular Solar System in Discoveries I then go into space and select the Galaxy Map but when I go to the Galaxy Map and select Custom Waypoint I find that the 'Move Along Route' option doesn't work. Pressing down on the right joystick does nothing unless I change from Custom Waypoint to something else, such as a current mission or side mission. So (stupidly) I went into 'Free Look' and tried to find the system I was looking for by simply looking around, but that was like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. But to my annoyance when I went to my Discoveries I noticed that all the systems I passed by when looking for the one I was after, were listed as 'Visited' even though I haven't actually visited those systems. What gives? Can I delete those systems I haven't actually visited and where am I going wrong with the custom waypoint? Please help?
