Hi

Having this error message come up randomly lately, it prompts me to connect controller via USB and re install the PS4 software via USB.

I did this about a month ago, hasn’t been used since but my son went to play it today and the message pops up unable to start PS4.

What’s causing this, poor hard drive?

When you reinstalled the software did it fix the problem? Was the PS4 turned off during installation?
If the software keeps corrupting then yes it could be the drive.

Yes I left it working, games downloaded, next use it corrrupted.

Any particular drive I need?

It is probably 5 years old, is it a sign it’s dying or is this just software / HDD related? I put a new drive in a couple of years ago hence asking is there a particular drive.

Thanks

No particular brand / purple label just any old 2.5inch drive?

May try SSD then as I think I put in a box standard unit

Did you ensure that the update occurred?
Perhaps there’s another update available.
Have you rebuilt the database in safe mode or initialised the PS4 (this latter will delete everything on the PS4)?
You can also remove the HDD/SSD & connect it to a pc via a caddy or specific cable format it:

I’ll have a look thanks, I think I’ll take it out and format it, it’s not ssd, does it need to be?
